Bärbel Praun (b. 1978), is a visual artist based in Hamburg, Germany, working at the intersection of photography, sculpture and performance. Her current bodies of work address the relationship between object, material and space, the value of our everyday material world and the visibility of process and time. Praun’s obsession with climate crisis, the pollution and the exploitation of the Earth, deeply influences the content and methodology of her work, as does her history with a nomadic way of life.
Praun studied Photography and Media at University of Applied Sciences in Bielefeld, and graduated in 2006. She has been actively involved in international artist residencies, collaborations, artist talks, workshops, and scholarship programs. Since 2020, she collaborates with Italian artist Flaminia Celata on the long-term project APUA, an investigation about Carrara marble quarries in the Apuan Alps in northern Italy, implemented with video, photography, performance and sound. Her work has been shown in Germany and internationally. Molekyl gallery made her aquaintace at Supermarket Artfair 2022, where she was represented by Basement gallery from Vienna.
